The record-breaking figures come amidst the regional airport’s yearslong improvement projects, which doubled the number of security lanes and added amenities.
“The entire team understands that traveling – may it be for work, pleasure, or a little of both – should be as efficient and convenient as possible,” President and CEO Chris White said in a press release.
On Jan. 27, the airport announced American Airways was adding a twice-daily service to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, giving CAE a second travel option for Columbia passengers heading to the Windy City.
A national chain of gas stations wants to build a new store on Columbia’s North Main, after the city shot down similar plans almost three years ago.
Murphy’s USA, a gas station chain with some 1,700 locations nationwide and 25 in the Columbia area, wants to build a new store at 3320 North Main St.
The zoning board struck down a request for a special exception for a Circle K gas station at the same property in March 2023.
The City of Columbia is hoping to lease the Strom Thurmond Federal Courthouse on Assembly Street, as the government considers selling it.
Columbia City Manager Teresa Wilson told the federal Public Buildings Reform Board the courthouse could be a potential solution to the city’s space issues at the current municipal courthouse on Washington Street.
“The court functions now of the city for municipal court are lacking, and that's what we've been looking for,” City Manager Teresa Wilson said.
While interested, the city would need to be sure of any improvements the long-vacant building would need before leasing or potentially buying if listed for sale, Wilson told The Post and Courier after the meeting.
